A Wildflower in Sedona

By Staff Writer | Sedona.biz

Sedona, AZ - The Wildflower Bread Company says that bread is the soul of its success, and looking behind the counter you can see why.  Loaves of fresh, warm bread are stacked to the rafters.  Don't know which bread to pick?  How about the "Bread of the Month" which right now is seeded pumpernickel, or grab a baguette for a dollar on your way out.

But bread isn't the only gourmet item this upscale bakery has to offer.  Along with traditional items like gourmet coffee, bagels, and muffins, on this day there were brightly colored cupcakes piled high behind a glass enclosure.

What people may not know is that Wildflower also serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner in a spacious and comfortable atmosphere, and a large, multi-colored glass floral sculpture adorns the center of the dining area.

There are both tables and booths giving the feel of an upscale diner. Unlike a traditional diner, however, there are no waiters or waitresses.  Instead, you order at the counter, take a colored sign to your table, and your food and silverware is brought to you.  Good service without the tipping.

But what if you just want to work or read? Wildflower has free wireless internet access, a fireplace, and newspapers.  They invite you to stay and sit for a while with a sign that says "Stop & Smell the Wildflowers."

If you decide to have a meal, be aware that it's hearty food.

For breakfast you can try "Feta & Roasted Vegetable Frittata", "Banana Walnut Pancakes" or "Lemon Ricotta Pancakes."

For lunch, how about a spicy meatball sandwich, some hearty soup and an "Oriental Chicken" salad, or a "Turkey Breast & Brie" sandwich.

The dinner menu consists mostly of pasta items like linguini and ravioli.

The meals are reasonably priced with an entree costing around $6.99.  Coffee and baked goods are less than $4.00 a piece.

You can also order take out.  We note that there is limited outdoor seating and the views of the red rocks are the base of the rocks across 89A.

There are nine Wildflower Bread Company locations throughout Arizona.  The Sedona location is at the far end at The Shops at Piñon Pointe, through the "Y" (intersections of 179 & 89A) and up the hill and past the Hyatt.
