Vyktoria Pratt Keating brings quirky folk rock to The Gypsy in Sedona on June 25

SEDONA, AZ (June 22, 2009) - In the tradition of progressive folk art rock Vyktoria Pratt Keating will bring her singer-songwriting talents to The Gypsy on Thursday, June 25, starting at 8 p.m.

Originally from the Washington, D.C., area, Keating was greatly influenced by the complex pop styles of the late 1960s and the progressive rock movement of the 1970s. Her lyrical songs are a blend of passion and poetry, with a bit of a quirky edge including odd time signatures, syncopation and unusual topics. However, she never loses her instinctive pop sensibilities.

Keating has toured extensively in 46 states and Great Britain, performing more than 2,000 live shows. Her music is featured in film and radio in the United States, Canada, Europe and South America. She has performed at the Apollo Theater in Oxford, England, The Greek Theater and the House of Blues in Los Angeles, Magness Arena in Denver, Mountain Stage and The Royal Concert Hall in Glasgow, Scotland.
The Washington Post described Keating’s music as “Some of the most free-handed, lithe and resilient music around.”
Keating has opened for Richard Thompson, Mary Chapin-Carpenter, Laura Nyro, Pierre Bensusan and Roger McGuinn. In 1999, she opened a 42-show, five-month tour for the British rock band Jethro Tull.

Ian Anderson, the front man and flutist of Jethro Tull said “Truly the troubadour, [Vyktoria Pratt Keating] combines age-old songstress seduction with technical expertise … the touching, provocative and observational songs pierce the heart and soul.”

Keating released her first album, Blue Apples, in 1993. The album earned her two Wammies — Washington D.C. Music Awards — for Best Recording and Best Female Vocalist. Keating’s second album, This Guardian At Noon, won a 1997 Wammie for Best New Age Vocalist. Her third album, Something About Driving was recorded live during her tour with Jethro Tull.

Her newest album, Things That Fall From The Sky, released in 2003, blends acoustic and electric instrumentation, her distinctive vocals and surreal subject matter that touches on the paranormal and Fortean imagery.

Keating has also been nominated for both a National Association of Independent Record Distributors Indie Award for Adult Contemporary Album of the Year and a National Association for Campus Activities Award for Coffeehouse Performer of the Year in 1996.

Keating showcased her music at South by Southwest in Austin, Texas, the main stage at the Kerrville Folk Festival in Texas, the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta, the Telluride Festival in Colorado, the Nashville Entertainment Extravaganza in Tennessee and the Greenwich Village Folk Festival and CMJ Music Marathon in New York City.
