Project 2 - Sedona City Limits
Sedona, AZ - May 03, 2008 - A two-week period
of night work will occur between the Y and Hillside (except for the
area between Portal Lane and the Oak Creek Bridge). The crews will
be placing storm drain “laterals,” which are pipes that cross under
SR 179 to convey storm water to the newly installed storm drain
system. The start date of this work is not yet finalized. When the
date is set, ADOT will provide notice to the community.
Crews will start at Hillside and work north towards the bridge, then
move to the Y and work to Ranger. Two crews will work
simultaneously, each installing one lateral per night, including
digging the trench, installing the laterals, backfilling, cleaning
the area and resetting traffic control for the morning.
Flaggers will be on hand every night to help mitigate traffic
impacts and make it as easy as possible to get through the area.
Pavement Striping and Lane Shifts
Temporary pavement has been applied between Chapel and Mallard so
traffic can be pushed to the side to allow for box culvert
construction on the other side of the road. Pavement striping crews
are scheduled to be in the area this week and once the temporary
pavement is striped, traffic will be switched.
Roadway Work South of Canyon Road
As underground structures and utilities are completed, work begins
on the roadway itself. This photo shows the newly aligned Morgan
Road, which was paved last week.
Ongoing Work
Post Office/Brewer Area
The underground work is being completed in the area of the Post
Office and Brewer Road, including the placement of electric conduit,
catch basins, and retaining walls. Arizona Water Company also will
need to relocate some fire hydrants in the area, and then concrete
crews will begin to place curb and gutter. At that time, the Brewer
roundabout will begin to visibly take shape.
Storm Drain Ranger to Oak Creek Bridge
The storm drain placement is ahead of schedule and nearly complete
with only about 50 feet remaining. The saturated ground in the area
caused the aged road to collapse during trenching. Crews are
carefully installing the system foot by foot. Although the work is
slower than anticipated due to this, the system, from the Y to the
Bridge will be done in about 40 days, which is less than the 65 days
originally anticipated for this portion of work.
Oak Creek Bridge Construction
Work on the new roadway bridge and pedestrian bridges is ongoing.
The new pedestrian bridge will be completed first. Currently, the
focus is on setting the foundation structures for both bridges. It
is anticipated that the pedestrian bridge may be placed sometime in
June.
Underground Utilities Oak Creek Bridge to Canyon Road
The gas line installation is going well; the team is more than
halfway through. In addition to the gas line, work is focused on
manholes, laterals, four catch basins, the tie in point for the
storm drain system and a major retaining wall near Hozho. Crews are
constantly monitoring traffic in the area and making adjustment as
much as possible to manage the traffic flow.
Retaining Walls and Other Underground Structures South of Canyon
Road
Several retaining walls are being built as part of this project to
minimize the roadway footprint by shoring up the slopes under and to
the side of the road. This photo shows the wall being built near
Poco Diablo.
Project 1 - Village of Oak Creek and Coconino National Forest
Ongoing Work
Northbound Alignment Reconstruction
The installation of the storm drain pipe is scheduled to be complete
this week, and work is progressing on box culverts.
Village Cleanup and Final Signage
Crews are completing various cleanup tasks in the Village such as
raising water valves, patching holes, installing final signage, and
fixing cracks in concrete. These activities involve minimal traffic
impacts.
Paving Scheduled South of Village
Depending on material availability, paving crews are scheduled to
complete the roadway paving south of the Village. Later this summer,
crews will apply the final layer of rubberized asphalt for the
entire length of Project 1 (South of the Village to Back O’ Beyond).
This final paving activity will likely be done at night.
