Sedona became popular in the 1980s as a destination for New Age enthusiasts when Page Bryant, a well known psychic, claimed to discover psychic energy sites in the area.  There are believed to be four main sites, or vortexes, that are highlighted by the red circles in the map below. A spiritual vortex is a funnel shape not unlike a tornado but believed to consist of twirling electro-magnetic energy.

Some say that just going to the site of one of these vortexes is a very uplifting experience.

As a result, Sedona has become a spiritual Mecca and is visited by many seeking to expand their consciousness and creativity.
