Sedona Chamber of Commerce announces its newly elected officials for
the Board of Directors
Sedona, AZ - The Sedona Chamber of Commerce
announces its newly elected officials for the 2008 Board of
Directors: Mal Wienges, Chairman; Joel Gilgoff, Vice-Chairman; Doug
McDaniel, Treasurer and Linda Goldenstein, Secretary. The Directors,
made up of 15 members from throughout the community, are volunteers
who donate up to 10 hours a week working on projects such as the
Sedona Home & Business Show, membership maintenance, economic
development, Chamber programs and Destination Marketing, to name
just a few.
"We are very happy to have such a diverse group of professionals
serving on the Sedona Chamber of Commerce Executive Committee," says
Jennifer Wesselhoff, President/CEO of the Sedona Chamber of
Commerce. Below are the biographies of the newly elected officials
for the 2008 Sedona Chamber of Commerce:
Mal Wienges, Chairman
Mal was instrumental in forming the Sedona Chamber's Film Office in
2006. Mal also serves on the City of Sedona's Public Works Quality
Assurance Committee, Sedona's Main Street Design Committee, and
Saint John Vianney's Finance Committee. Last year Governor
Napolitano appointed Mal to serve as an Arizona State Film
Commissioner. He was also elected to, and currently serves on, the
Executive Committee of The National Academy of Television Arts and
Sciences (The Emmy Organization.)
Mal spent an illustrious 31 years at the CBS Television Network. He
began as a management trainee and rose to position of Vice
President. Wienges is credited with originating the concept of
remote production for daytime dramas when he took The Guiding Light
to the Bahamas. Since then, Mal has produced more than 158
television and film productions. Mal received two National Emmys,
including one for technical achievement for the 1994 Winter Olympics
in Lillehammer, Norway, and a second National Emmy in 1992 for the
NFL on CBS. Wienges, an honors graduate from C.W. Post College with
a B.S. in atomic and nuclear physics, obtained a Masters of Science
degree in engineering management from Long Island University. Mal is
President of Sedona Broadcasting, and serves as a television
consultant to the Warner Brothers Television Network and IBM.
Joel Gilgoff, Vice-Chair
Joel Gilgoff brings a wealth of experience with him; a practitioner
in real estate in Sedona since 1988, and owner of RE/MAX Sedona
since 1993. Joel began his career with IBM in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. as
an electronics engineer. He then moved to Los Angeles to install the
computers for the space program.
After 13 years with IBM he left to start a chain of retail stores in
the Los Angeles area called G.A.M.E.S. This chain of 6 stores sold
pinball machines, slot machines, and other amusement devices to
homes and businesses. In 1983 Joel left G.A.M.E.S. to start a
business consulting firm specializing in computer-based
telemarketing, training and retail point of sale computer systems.
Joel has also consistently been one of the top realtors in the
RE/MAX Southwest Region. For year 2000 he was the top selling RE/MAX
agent in the southwest, and was voted Broker/Owner of the year by
RE/MAX Southwest Region. He has help hundreds of families find their
dream home in Sedona. Joel also serves as Chairman of the City of
Sedona's Board of Adjustments as well as chief of technology and the
Internet for the Sedona/Oak Creek Chamber of Commerce. He was also a
founding member of the Chamber's Destination Marketing Committee.
Doug McDaniel, Treasurer
Doug has extensive experience with governmental organizations,
serving as Regional Director coordinating Federal, State, Education,
and Labor programs; and as Director of a County Economic Development
program. He focused this experience as a Lead Consultant for the May
Company out of Chicago, specializing in saving small and midsized
companies in danger of failing throughout Western Canada and the
U.S., into Latin America, and later, in his own consulting company.
Today, Doug is a Financial Advisor with the Edward Jones Company,
helping individuals and companies set goals and use financial assets
to achieve the proper risk/reward balance to succeed. He specializes
in Benefit Packages for smaller companies to help attract and retain
quality employees in a tightening job market. He also serves on many
civic/business organizations (Chamber of Commerce Board, President/
Village Business Association, Kiwanis, and others).
Linda Goldenstein, Secretary
A native of Arizona, born on the Hualapai Indian reservation on
Route 66, Linda moved to the Sedona area in 1969 and has maintained
a home here ever since. She was in the branch banking business for
12 years while raising her two young children. She then followed a
job offer in Santa Fe, NM, which led her to opening the Santa Fe
Craftsman's Guild, a high-end custom furniture and architectural
product company. She sold the company in the late 1990's and
partnered in an art gallery on Canyon Road, Santa Fe. When 911
brought down the Towers she felt it was time to return home to
Sedona and to her parents, her children and her grandchildren. Linda
is the Founder and President of Goldenstein Gallery in Uptown
Sedona, a gallery known for it's innovative approach and sense of
community. The gallery is in its 6th year of business, with a local
following and collectors that span the globe. Goldenstein Gallery
has worked with many charity organizations and supported the
performing and visual arts such the Canyon Moon Theater and Sedona
Chamber Music as well as humanitarian interests including the Verde
Valley Sanctuary.
Edd Zielinski, Immediate Past Chairman
Edd is the Executive Vice President, Resort Operations, ILX Resorts
Incorporated; President, Chief Operating Officer, Varsity Clubs of
America (a wholly owned subsidiary of ILX Resorts). Edd has served
as a senior member of ILX Resorts management team since joining the
company in September, 1988. While maintaining an office at the
company's flagship property, Los Abrigados Resort & Spa in Sedona,
AZ, he is responsible for resort management, operations and
development of all ILX Resorts properties located throughout
Arizona, Colorado, Indiana, Nevada and Mexico.
In addition to his 19 years of timeshare operating experience with
ILX Resorts in Sedona, he has over 10 years of international resort
management and marketing experience with Oceania Resorts, Hyatt
International and Continental Airlines in New Zealand, Fiji, Saipan,
Guam, Cook Islands, Tahiti and Micronesia. Within the local
community he has served on the Mayor's Advisory Committee for
Economic Development; participated on the Coconino County Private
Industry Council; served as past President of the American Culinary
Federation of Northern Arizona; past member of the Chamber of
Commerce Destination Marketing Committee; Edd is also a past
Director of Sedona Jazz on the Rocks and the Institute of
Ecotourism, both non-profit organizations and is a volunteer coach
for youth soccer and baseball leagues. Edd is married to Nancy
Zielinski. They reside in the Village of Oak Creek with their three
children, Stefan, Nicole and Thomas.
