SEDONA, AZ (November 5, 2009) - Artist
Awards were announced at the 5th Annual Sedona Plein Air
Festival’s Gala Event held in the Monet Ballroom at L’Auberge de Sedona
(the Festival’s presenting sponsor) on Friday evening, October 30,
2009. The evening event was a showcase for the works of 30
professional, award-winning artists from around the country. The artists
painted Sedona and the surrounding area for seven days beginning with
the Paint Out on Main Street on Sunday afternoon, October 24 and ending
with the Quick Draw event on Friday morning, October 30.
More than 250 guests gathered in the
beautiful ambiance of the garden outside the L’Auberge Money Ballroom to
enjoy cocktails and hors d’oeuvres provided by L’Auberge Restaurant on
Oak Creek. It was a brisk, beautiful autumn evening filled with the
music of Grammy award-winning artist, William Eaton.

Director, Joe Mottershead, General Manager of L’Auberge and Mayor Rob
Adams welcomed the crowd to the gala event and opened the ballroom doors
promptly at 6:00 pm for the first viewing of an exceptional exhibit of
plein-air art. Everyone was in awe of the works presented and patrons
quickly began to purchase the pieces that captured their hearts.

Near the end of the evening, the
much-anticipated awards were presented to the winning artists.
Joe Mottershead, General Manager at L’Auberge announced the
Presenting Sponsor Award – Rick J.
Delanty of California, for Sedona Autumn,
which
was painted that morning at
the L’Auberge Quick Draw event.
Bob Myers and Ann Zimmerman, Sedona
Arts Center Board President presented the next three awards:
Artists Choice Award, selected by a
vote of all participating artists,
went to Bill Cramer of Prescott for
Stories in Stone.
The Collectors
Choice Award, selected by a vote of everyone attending the gala,
went to Rick J. Delanty for Oak Creek
Secret.
And . . . finally the coveted
2010 Festival Poster Award was presented to Joshua Been for
Cathedral Reflection.
The last awards
of the evening were announced by Wm Scott Jennings, plein-air artist
and guest juror for the Festival.
Best of Show Merit Awards were
presented to: Betty Carr (AZ) for Morning
in Jerome; Tom Lynch (IL) for
Copper Canyon Fudge; Carolyn Hesse-Low (CA) for
Prickly Slope; and Scott Freeman (CO) for
After Hours in Tlaquepaque. The grand award of the evening,
Best of Show, was given to Scott Prior
of California, for his piece, Breakfast at
the Flatiron.

All proceeds from the evening event and
sales at the two-day public exhibit held in the Sedona Arts Center
Galleries on Saturday and Sunday benefit the Arts Center School of the
Visual Arts, which is the focal point in fulfilling our mission to
provide quality arts education and support the development of artists.
The week-long event is
