Annual Sedona Firewise Cleanup
Weekend: Friday, Saturday and Sunday, May 16, 17 and
18
Sedona, AZ - May 8, 2008 - The sixth annual
Sedona Clean-up will be held Friday, Saturday and
Sunday, May 16, 17 and 18, 2008! This annual event,
sponsored by the City of Sedona, Coconino County,
Sedona Fire District and the US Forest Service,
provides everyone the opportunity to assist in
protecting their homes, neighborhoods, and
community. Participation is open to all Sedona Fire
District residents.
Schedule the weekend of May 16-18 to get your
combustible materials from your yard to the disposal
area at Station #4, 391 Forest Road, in Uptown
Sedona.
Sedona Fire District Fire Marshal William Loesche
reminds you the removal of these materials from your
yard will increase your defensible space and enhance
your ability to protect yourself from the risk of
wildland fire. You can take brush, tree and shrub
trimmings (limbs and trunks, too), as well as
“bagged” leaves and pine needles. We cannot take
cactus or construction materials.
Help your Sedona Firefighters help you in the event
of a wildland fire by following these simple steps:
1. Define your defensible space. This gives your
local firefighters space to work in.
2. Reduce flammable vegetation, trees, and brush
around your home.
3. Remove or prune trees. Cut grass and weeds
regularly.
4. Relocate wood piles and leftover building
materials.
5. Keep your roof and yard clean.
Everyone is encouraged to take advantage of this
opportunity. Sedona Fire District wants to do
everything possible to protect our urban interface
area from the tragedy of wildfire. This program is a
way for you to help Sedona Fire District protect
your life and property. Please call 282-6800 for
additional information or a free wildfire assessment
of your home.
