Free event that will include activities and presentations for all ages

Sedona, AZ - The many facets of renewable energy, complete with educational activities and presentations to tips on how to save on your energy bills, will be part of the Sedona Public Library Renewable Energy Awareness Day (READ) from Noon to 5 p.m. on February 23 at the library.

APS and ECOtality will bring the ECObus, a 31-seat, zero-emissions vehicle, to the Sedona Library at its Renewable Energy Awareness Day on Feb 23 from Noon to 5pm, where it will be open for activities and educational demonstrations.

The event is free to the public and is co-sponsored by Arizona Public Service Company, the Sedona Library and Sustainable Arizona as part of their Sustainability Resource Center series.

One of the highlights of the day will be a hydrogen bus, essentially a classroom on wheels for all ages that focuses on the benefits of hydrogen as a fuel. APS and ECOtality will bring the ECObus, 31-seat, zero-emissions vehicle to the fair, where it will be open for activities and educational demonstrations.

Inside the Library, a range of exhibits and presentations will be hosted by local companies, with the first presentations beginning in the Si Birch Community Room at noon, and the last at 4 p.m. as follows:

Jim Corning: Transportation with Renewable Energy (Electric Motorcycle)
Lane Garret: Photovoltaic – The Time is Now, it’s Now a Good Investment

Carl Ramsey: Wind Power; Southwest Wind; A Clean Renewable Energy Source.

Additional highlights:

Free CFL Bulb/Exchange: APS will exchange an old, inefficient incandescent bulb for a new, high efficiency compact fluorescent light (CFL) bulb for the first 500 attendees.
Drop Off of Used Batteries: Sedona Recycles will accept old batteries for recycling. They will take used AA, AAA, C, D, flat batteries, cell phone batteries, back-up power supplies and others for recycling or proper disposal.
Teachers and parents can stop by to learn/view a program, The APS Road to Renewable Energy, available on CD that is free for use by teachers. The program is compliant with AIMS sustainability learning standards.
A scavenger hunt for kids will be held throughout the day, with answers to be found in each participating exhibitor booth. Prizes will be given to winners throughout the day.
