Sedona Red Rock High School poet to give it her
all at state competition
Sedona, AZ - On Friday, March 14th Liana O'Boyle
will represent Sedona at the 3rd annual Poetry Out
Loud State Competition in Phoenix.
Over 20 high
schools from all over the state will be sending
poets representing their schools and one poet will
be selected after two rounds of recitation. That
poet will go onto the national recitation contest on
held on April 29th in Washington D.C. But Liana is
going to make it difficult for them to choose.
"She is a fireball!" says Christopher Lane, Poetry
Out loud Coach for Sedona Red Rock High School. "She
has no inhibitions about her performance. She's all
about making the audience recognize her talents as a
poet and performer on stage."
And performs she does. Her interpretation of Nikki
Giovanni's poem "Beautiful Black Men" is a poem
people will never forget. She brings out the true
essence of the poem. All the intense details, the
real "voice" of the poem is accentuated through Ms.
O'Boyle.
Liana found the poems she wanted to use in the
competition on the contest's website at
http://poetryoutloud.org.
After selecting her poems she ran through a series
of school contests that eventually selected Liana to
represent Sedona.
"At the school assembly, the students were in an
uproar over her performance. She really won all of
them over," says Lane.
The location of the state wide finals is to be
announced but you can call, toll free, 866.698.8790
to find out where the contest will be held or visit
