Pizza Picazzo: Pizza as an Art Form
By Staff Writer
(Sedona , Arizona) - Picazzo's Gourmet Pizza & Salads was founded in 2002 by Rick
Freedman and has become a popular spot for Sedona visitors and residents wanting
a little fun, creativity, and unique taste sensations.
In addition to traditional pizza favorites, Picazzo's also
has a variety of specialty pizza creations like "The Vortex" (4 different meat
and vegetable toppings), "Shrimp Scampi" and "BBQ Chicken,"
and even an artichoke pizza. Creative patrons can make their own masterpieces by choosing from 7 sauces, 9
varieties of cheese and 35 toppings. A small pizza costs $11 - $14.50 and
a large between $17 - $22.50. "The Vortex" has the highest price and
raises you to another level of consciousness, of course! The pizza toppings are laid on a thin crust canvas.
For those wanting lighter fare, there are a variety of salad
combinations. Our favorite is the "Fresh Pear Gorgonzola" made with mixed
greens, gorgonzola crumbles, glazed walnuts and fresh pears, and topped with a
sweet raspberry vinaigrette dressing.
The inside dining area is a comfortable setting with a large
hand painted mural by Jean-Pierre Chesnel adorning one wall. There is also
a small outdoor patio area with a water display and intricately woven iron gates.
We suggest arriving early because it gets crowded quickly
and there can be a wait. Try to get there before noon for lunch and around 5pm
for dinner. Some folks decide to eat at the bar rather than wait.
The average meal costs $20, which is expensive when compared
to regular pizza, but the portions are large and the varieties are unique.
The staff is noted to be very friendly.
