Sedona, AZ -
Stanley Jordan,
considered one of the most proficient jazz guitarists in his field,
is also the owner of Sedona Books & Music.
He can discourse as easily on music theory as on ground
breaking trends in physics, business and philosophy; making him a
true Renaissance Man.
His broad knowledge and diverse interests also make him the
perfect overseer of the eclectic mix of books and music found at
Sedona Books & Music.

Stanley moved to Sedona eleven years ago citing a love for the
breath taking beauty of the area. As a musician, Sedona's
beauty and majesty is a creative inspiration. As a business man,
Sedona's small town friendliness combined with a cultural and philosophic diversity to rival bigger
cities made opening a local book and music store a natural fit.
From the start Stanley endeavored to make Sedona Books & Music different from any other store in town.
Through the store's varied offerings and stimulating atmosphere he
hopes to appeal to thoughtful people with broad based interests who
are also concerned about social trends and environmental causes.
While the philosophical mission of Sedona Books & Music is to
be a gathering place for creative people, its practical
mission is to be attentive to its customers'
interests through its choice of book and music offerings.
Stanley's concept of "the thoughtful patron" is one who,
while not necessarily requiring the detailed knowledge of an expert,
wants to read well known books on cutting edge subjects and even
unfamiliar books that take important ideas to the next level.
Stanley believes that Sedona draws educated people who are looking
for that "something extra."
"Bionomics: Economy as Ecosystem" is a good example of this type of book. Written by
Michael Rothschild, "Bionomics" describes how knowledge of biological
systems can be applied to understand economics. This book might
appeal to business people in Sedona searching for a
new approach to revolutionize their business practice.
In fact, all of the books at Sedona Books & Music reflect this philosophy
with a broad selection in categories such as Business, Music,
Philosophy, Regional Topics, Spirituality, General Fiction, and
Science just to name a few.
Sedona Books & Music also contains Arizona's most extensive
collection of works on Music Therapy. Currently working towards a
Master's Degree in Music Therapy at the University of Arizona,
Stanley has amassed a collection here for all interest levels, from the beginner to the
accredited practitioner.
Stanley also keeps his finger on
the pulse of the local music scene by arranging in store jam sessions,
and supports the Sedona music community by providing guitar lessons
and making music books, CD's and
musical instruments available.
If you are looking
for a CD of Classical, Folk, Country, Classic Rock, Local Music, or Heavy Metal,
you'll find it at Sedona Books & Music along with suggestions
of other
similar artists that might appeal to you.
If you are looking for
Kenny G, have you heard Sun-Ra? Or, if you enjoy Mozart, have you
listened to Milton Babbitt?
Serving the needs and interests of the community is a primary goal
of Sedona Books & Music. If that
book, CD, or instrument you are searching for is not in stock, the
staff will be happy to order it for you.
With a large and comfortable reading and listening area, you are
encouraged to browse, pick out a book and sit for a spell, or even
strike up an engaging conversation with another patron. Let the kids
choose a bright book to read while they prop themselves up against a
oversized stuffed tiger in the Children's Area. Take down one of the
guitars or pick up a drum on display and play a tune. Audience
participation of all forms is highly encouraged here.
