SEDONA – May 13, 2009 – Sedona’s Emily Warren, a student director at the Zaki Gordon Institute (ZGI) for Independent Film Making, premieres her short film “LUCK” during Memorial Day weekend (May 22-24) at the ZGI Short Film Festival in Sedona. Having lost everything, Nicole writes a “Dear God” letter looking for answers and some sense of comfort. The letter is discovered by Wylie, a postal worker whose simple offering of kindness gives Nicole the support she needs to turn her life around.

Along with being Emily’s debut film, LUCK is also the on-screen debut of Alena Follestad-Jutilla, a 12-year-old homeschooled student from Sedona. While her first time on camera, Alena has been on stage with Canyon Moon Theatre and Dance Spirit, and also takes improvisation acting classes in Sedona from Emmy Award-winning writer Dev Ross.

The role of Nicole’s suicidal father is played by Alena’s real-life (and mentally stable) father, Dean Jutilla, while the part of Wylie is played by Jim Clark.

“Writing and directing 'Luck' was a very fulfilling experience from beginning to end,” said Emily. “I was fortunate to work with a good crew and great actors who were dedicated and professional. When audiences see my film, I want them to reflect on life in the sense that one never really knows what will happen from one day to the next and that offering up kindness to others can truly change their world, no matter how bad their situation.”
