The Spirit Art Gallery
will be featuring jewelry artist Sally Peck. Sally
moved to Sedona, Arizona, after a 30-year teaching
career. She remembered her love of beading as a
youngster and took lessons. There was absolutely no
doubt after the first lesson that beads were her
thing. She was hooked.
Sally's formal art education has been used to create
one-of-a-kind innovative beaded art designs. Her
award-winning designs are collected in the Americas
and Europe, and make use of natural stones, as well
as glass and other created beads.
Entertainment will be provided by local musician
Tina Reichow.
If you think you've seen it all in jewelry work,
stop by Aurum. On
display is a vivid collection of new work by Noah
Pfeffer, extraordinary silversmithing by Ray Winner
and a striking selection from Doug Downer and
Lindsay Livingston. Bring your repairs and pet

clever fox, and a chickadee named Brownsville Girl.
This is just a sample of what you'll see at
Janie Layers new
studio/gallery at the Old Jerome High School,
Building A. And presto! There will be a magic show
conducted by the Sangiovanni Brothers. Maybe they
can create a Monsoon!
British painter Clive
Pates will be showing his newly completed series
of plein air paintings from the Verde River bank at
the Dead Horse Ranch. These paintings capture the
light of the extreme conditions of the desert as the
seasons change from the cool, dry weather of late
autumn through the unbearable heat and reflection of
the height of Summer. Visit Clive’s studio at the
Old Jerome High School, Building A.
The Tucson Biennial opening in July included a
much-acclaimed piece by artist
Alan Bur Johnson.
Meanwhile, Alan is busy working on two commissions
for Neiman Marcus in Seattle. Stop by his amazing
studio in Building B of The Old Jerome High School
to see this work in progress as well as the
photography of MB
Sullivan.
Photographer Patrick
Lincoln in The New State Motor Company writes,
“OOOOOH! It Burns!!!! Yes, we burn for art all month
long at the Lincoln Gallery! We lost 3 of the
artist's multiple personalities to (terminal) heat
prostration. One of our neighbors in the gulch
planted a patch of corn, just below where another
neighbor penned a couple of 300-pound prize pigs.
During the hottest day of the month the two pigs
melted and all that hot grease ran down hill into
the corn patch which caused all that corn to pop and
we had two acres three feet high in popcorn!” To
immortalize the height of the heat, Patrick ripped a
burning piece out of the fiery chaos titled “Hot Day
in July” on display at his ultra-hip gallery.
It’s summer in full swing. Did you know that
Raku Gallery has a
lot of functional art to help you enjoy entertaining
this season? New to the gallery are Buff Brown’s
cutting boards. The artist keeps the natural edge
of the wood, so not only is this a great serving
tool, but also a beautiful piece to look at when in
use or not. Free-blown drinking glasses in many
forms will help you enjoy those beverages that keep
you cool. Salads take on a new freshness when
served in a beautifully glazed ceramic bowl by
Patton. Tracy Weisel is producing his own
functional ceramics over the summer and taking a
break from the heat of the glass furnace. Come by
and look at his new oval casseroles. Mention
“Kudos” and we’ll take 10% off your purchase during
Augusts' Jerome Art Walk hours of 5-8PM.
"Be It Ever So Humble…" will be on display at the
Jerome Artists
Cooperative Gallery from August 1 through
September 9. Known as a fiber artist and doll-maker,
mixed-media artist Michele Cokl Naylor has been a
member of the Jerome Artists Cooperative Gallery for
11 years. For her show, "Be It Ever So Humble…," she
creates mixed media collage built around digitally
enhanced photographs dating from the 1870s through
the 1940s, all while incorporating her love of color
and texture in the process.
The show's opening on Saturday Aug 1 at 5 p.m.
coincides with the always-popular Jerome Art Walk.
Opening night will feature music from the 1920s and
'30s, refreshments and a chance to meet the artist
and discuss home and family and the creative
process.
Gallery 527
celebrates summer with a member’s show featuring
jeweler Marian Ward and music by Vyktoria Pratt
Keating. Marian Ward will be showing some
spectacular new jewelry including an Egyptian
inspired piece titled “The Eye of Horus”, a 22Kgold
and fine silver pendant on a beaded, woven rope of
glimmering copper and glass beads.
The gallery regulars will be changing out their work
after the provocative Stain of Politics show in July
and will be on hand for another great party at
Gallery 527 in Jerome. New member Mary Fisher will
be showing her twig and paper figures as well as
amazing and provocative quilts. For more
