Kim Hoshal’s landscape photography will be featured at the Spirit Art Gallery grand re-opening, celebrating their new location at 515 Main Street  beside Gallery 527 in Jerome.

Halloween weekend scares up a great Art Walk in Jerome

JEROME, AZ - Oct 18, 2008 - First Saturday Jerome Art Walk on November 1st will be a night filled with great art, music, food and maybe even costumed guests.

Thirty galleries and studios stage another night of fun in this magical, mile high town. Following Halloween night, the November 1st event promises to be an over the top celebration with openings, happenings and more.

From the Old Jerome High School on the lower level, to StahlKraft on the top level, expect a gala party everywhere on this Halloween weekend in Jerome. For more information, contact Donna at (928) 649-2277 or visit www.jeromeartwalk.com.

The big news on the art scene in Jerome is the relocation of the wonderful Spirit Art Gallery, moving down the street to 515 Main Street. November’s Jerome Art Walk and Grand Re-opening at the Spirit Art Gallery will be featuring award-winning photographer Kim Hoshal. The ever-evolving light and iconic landscapes of the American Southwest, combined with a life-long interest in photographic imagery, has ensured that Kim's calling would lie behind the lens of a camera. Through her images, Kim attempts to uncover the small and intimate moments contained within the grand and sweeping scale of the vast open spaces of the Southwest. Although her work takes her to many scenic areas, her true loves are the regions of Arizona, the Colorado Plateau and Southern Utah. The Spirit Art Gallery is also pleased to feature 2008 NAMMY (Native American Music Awards) nominee William Hoshal, with Grammy Award winner, Gary Stroutsos, who performs world flute music drawn from many cultures; and Jerome resident James Thomlinson, who in another life, was a drummer for Pete Seeger.

The Fool on the Hill-a gallery of wonderful things- will feature the work of Random Acts. The small design company from Brooklyn takes the work of guerilla photographers in New York City and prints them on fabulous tops and pants using a vibrant sublimation technique. From urban to the urbane, these pieces will be great additions to your Fall collection. With wine and chocolate being served during Art Walk, the Fool on the Hill welcomes you to an evening of peace, love, fashion, and art.

On the evening of Jerome’s November 1st Art Walk, Pura Vida Gallery welcomes Cave Creek artists Scott and Shawn Johnson to the gallery. The gallery will be filled with the couple’s beautiful and colorful glass and metal flower bouquets. Scott’s artistic background began by following his father’s footsteps in creating limited edition bronze sculptures. His love for arts and a curiosity for a wide variety of media led him to a successful career in creating ceramic sculptures combined with hand blown glass. His passion for glass and knowledge of casting materials, along with the help of his wife, then led him to develop this very unique line of beautiful glass flowers.

Come see all the different varieties of flower bouquets created by this wonderful couple. Scott and Shawn will be on hand from 5-8pm on the evening of the Art Walk to discuss their work. In addition, Pura Vida Gallery will host its infamous champagne and chocolate reception for all the guests. Pura Vida Gallery is located at 501 School Street in Jerome, just three doors down from the Red Rooster Café. You may reach the gallery at 634-0937.

Gallery 527 in Jerome throws a great Art Walk party every month. Silver Shadow will be playing at the November 1st event.

Gallery 527 features salvage and mixed media art by Elaine Joli and music by Silver Shadow. Elaine will be unveiling her sculpture entitled “Babel” which portrays man’s inability to communicate. Her work includes bronzes from her winged figure series, intricate collage clocks, wood and salvage table- top sculpture and wall pieces.

The Jerome Co-op continues a show by Sally Davidson called “Beings.” Inspiration for Davidson’s exhibit comes from her passion for nature and travel; works in the show will include acrylic paintings of animals and nature/travel photography. Her work has delighted art lovers throughout the world, including collectors in Europe and Australia.

Dreamscape Gallery features an evening of wine and chocolate during the November 1st Art Walk in Jerome. Dreamscape Gallery features the works of local artists expressing their inner vision. From original oils on canvas, to blown glass, gourd art, ceramic creations and one of a kind jewelry, each work is unique and vibrant with life. The Dreamscape Gallery is located at 419 Hull Avenue (Below the Flat Iron Cafe).

Dawn Sutherland has just finished the Grand Canyon's rim to rim hike and followed that with a day-long paint trip on a Colorado River raft trip with a group of nine painters, stopping twice to paint on the way to Lee's Ferry. Then, Dawn was on to Pinetop for the Third Annual "Paint the Aspens” where she won an honorable mention. Dawn painted around 8,500-9,000' where the aspens were at their prettiest. Expect to see the fruits of Dawn’s adventures at the November Art Walk at her studio in the Old Jerome High School.

Speaking of The Old Jerome High School, do not miss new work at Hemleben Gallery, Vicki Day and Seeds, Darryl Day, Robin Anderson and Margo Mandette’s impressive gallery and other working studios that will be open on November 1st.

In support of the Strides Against Breast Cancer campaign of the American Cancer Society, Stahlkraft, the gallery high in Hill Street, will host “My Journey With Cancer” at the Jerome Art Walk on Saturday, November 1 from 12 noon-8pm. Dr. Susan Grace’s intimate watercolor account of her experience with breast cancer will be exhibited. Stahlkraft Gallery will donate 10% of
gross sales to the campaign during the month of November.

Cody DeLong will be in his studio for the November Art Walk, possibly working on a sculpture which he hopes to have cast in bronze this spring.

Cody is currently featured on the cover of Sedona Magazine. He also has the honor of having been invited as one of only 20 artists from across the country to participate in the first ever plein air event to be held on the south rim of the Grand Canyon in September 2009. Visit the artist studio in the Jerome Gallery Building or www.codydelong.com for more info.

This month Altai will be continuing to create one of a kind tooled belts as well as guitar straps that are hand - tooled with some in-lay designs. Designer Kelly’s mother is at the shop and she has created a very nice aura and feel for the customers as they come in and see her sewing newly designed and beautifully hand-made purses. She is working on an assortment of different styles in beautiful purple, yellow, red, and magenta cow hides.

Aurum is pleased to show a dramatic collection of new work by Jerome's own Ray Winner. Fine fabrication and collector grade American turquoise set off this work. There is new work as well by sculptor Ron Haggerty.

Raku Gallery has a lot of new work in for the November Jerome Art Walk. The Essence Collection of fine silver jewelry by Arlee is fabulously avant-garde. Additional new jewelry includes works by Sanel and Mitchell. We are proud to represent furniture artist Benny Goodman. His juniper tables inlaid with turquoise are dynamite. The quality of his work is exceptional. We are also excited to have more of Garcia’s glass work. He is one of the best blowers in this country and retiring from the glass world. Going, going, gone! Now is the time to think about holiday shopping and Raku Gallery has exceptional gift items in all price ranges. During the evening, take time to enjoy the entertaining glassblowing demonstrations by Tracy Weisel in the studio behind the gallery.

Inside the lovely Raku Gallery, guests enjoy the art and the spectacular view.

Jerome's Jewelry artist Rick Hernandez will be featuring a special line of sting-ray hide inlaid jewelry. The black hide looks fabulous in jewelry with its unique texture. Rick also enjoys creating gold and silver pieces using Australian opal, tanzanite and diamond along with various Arizona Gemstones. Rick's 17 year old son Ricky has created a variety of jewelry designs with contemporary flair to traditional patterns. Ricky enjoys using drusy, tourmaline and amethyst when creating his pieces.

Nellie Bly, the largest kaleidoscope gallery in the world, will feature Sally Dryer’s fantastic sculptural pieces. At every turn in this delightful gallery, another fascinating treasure unfolds and astounds with its beauty. Don’t miss Marc Tickle’s Fibbonacian Spheres. This artist is known as the master of visual illusion. Be sure to see the stunning collection of art glass, as well.

Made in Jerome continues its long legacy of fine ceramic work by owners Jane Moore and David Hall. They are masters of stoneware and are always ready to discuss their process.

Come early, stay late. Have a meal at one of the delicious restaurants, a wine tasting at Jerome Winery or maybe spend the night. Halloween will be in the air on November 1st for First Saturday Art Walk in Jerome. There is plenty of parking in the new lot and a shuttle runs though out the town from The Old Jerome High School to the Grand Hotel. For more information, visit www.jeromeartwalk.com or call Donna at 649-2277.
