Linda Yee (above) will tell the story of the internment of Japanese Americans during WWII.

A True Story: The Japanese American Internment of World War II at Sedona Heritage Museum

SEDONA, AZ (November 29, 2009) - The Sedona Historical Society is hosting the last in their 2009 series of Living History presentations on Wednesday December 9 at 9:00 a.m. at the Sedona Heritage Museum.

“A True Story: The Japanese American Internment of World War II” will be presented by long-time Sedona resident, Linda Yee.

Linda’s presentation will tell the story of the interment of Japanese Americans during WW II. Linda will discuss her family’s lives before, during and after this period. Her family’s personal experiences mirrored those of many other families – torn from their homes by a country in the throws of war.

She will also share her personal story of being “The First Japanese in Sedona.”

Linda Yee and her mother, Mary Henshall were both born in Nampa, Idaho where Mary’s father and mother immigrated from Japan and became successful farmers in the Boise Valley. Mary graduated from Oregon State University and became a teacher in Nampa, ID, Clarkdale, AZ, and Mesa, AZ. Linda Yee graduated from ASU and San Diego State University. She enjoyed a career in nursing in San Diego where she became Directory of Emergency Services at Mercy Hospital and UCSD Medical Center.

Following WW II, Linda and her mother lived in Sedona during the late 40’s and early 50’s. Little Linda attended the Sedona School. Their first house was on the site of today’s Exposure’s Gallery and both remember that there were no other buildings along that part of SR 179.
