Indie films open minds and hearts at Future Studios on Apr 3 & 5; filmmakers in attendance

Sedona, AZ - March 29, 2008 - Future Studios Cinema presents two excellent, must-see films this weekend, The Last Atomic Bomb on Thursday, April 3 and the world premier theatrical screening of All Jacked Up on Saturday, April 5.

The Last Atomic Bomb (Thursday, 4/3) is the story of 10-year-old Sakue Shimohira, who was hiding in a shelter near ground zero when the bomb exploded in August 1945, and the aftermath of that day.

Her experiences are interwoven with rarely seen archival footage, never-before-told accounts of what happened to her and other survivors in 1945 and in subsequent years, the U.S. decision to use the bomb, censorship in the U.S. and Japan of the bomb or its effects, discrimination against survivors by other Japanese, buildup of nuclear weapons during the Cold War, the anti-nuclear movement, and today’s nuclear proliferation issues.

In one of the film’s most powerful moments Sakue describes her sister’s suicide ten years after the war ended as "the courage to die." Mrs. Shimohira, the survivor, found "the courage to live" and dedicate her life to abolishing nuclear weapons.

The films producer, Robert Richter will host a post-film discussion. Best Documentary, San Diego Asian Film Festival; Audience Award for Best Documentary, Sao Paolo International Film Festival; Press Award, Goais (Brazil) International Film Festival; CINE Golden Eagle.

"It's impossible to remain detached...an emotional sledge hammer but not a diatribe ...Deeply affecting..." The New York Times. 92 min. English subtitles. Recommended ages 12 & up.

All Jacked Up (Saturday, 4/5) is an angst-driven portrait of four teenagers who discover the truth about their obsessive, addictive, and emotion-fueled eating habits.  All this brought on by their parents, schools, and our abusive food system that profits from them with no regard to their well-being.

Melissa, Raquel, Michael and Danny are typical teens with mainstream lifestyles and eating habits. With the help of a curious narrator, they discover what lies beneath their exploitation and how to confront it. Teen emotional and physical conditions are examined by noted experts as the film uncovers an apparent conspiracy that works against the health of an entire generation.

In a climate where media attention is primarily on childhood obesity, Director Jennifer Mattox looks at the bigger picture a system that preys upon consumer innocence in the name of profit. The filmmakers make a direct connection between what teens eat and their behavior and emotions.

This frank and witty look at what’s really going on inside the bodies, hearts and minds of the teen generation is a wake up call for them to stand up and demand change. Jennifer Mattox and Douglas Clemons, the writers and producers of the film, will be in attendance for a post-film discussion. 110 min., Recommended ages 12 & up.
