Sedona, AZ - July 3, 2008 - Throughout July
Goldenstein Gallery in uptown Sedona presents “The
Big Bang” an exhibition that celebrates the
independent spirit and style of their gallery
artists.
The amazing array of talent features work that is
full of color, motion, and a fresh sensibility that is fun yet
sophisticated.
Some of artists highlighted are deeply rooted in
tradition, while other artists flourish with new styles capturing
the imaginations of today. Representing 35 diverse artists,
primarily local and regional, the gallery is a multi-faceted
celebration of independent vision.
Among the stars of this special show is David DeVary , known for his
“Cowboys & Cowgirls with Attitude.” The "attitude" in David DeVary’s
paintings comes from the cowboys and cowgirls he’s met. Early on he
would photograph the rodeos for inspiration. DeVary realized the
Western cowboy and cowgirl are American icons and paints them as
such using gold, silver and copper leaf, much like the icon painters
of old. The contemporary work captures the values of the West with
interest, beauty and sense of good being.

combines her talents to create avant-garde works in reverse painted
acrylic fusion and multi-media, even incorporating surprising pieces
such as antique keys into her paintings.

In November of 2006 celebrated Sedona Artist Sherab Khandro received
a grant from the City of Sedona Department of Arts and Culture
Commission to create a prayer wheel in the Tibetan Buddhist style.
She has recently debuted the stunning limited edition bronze piece
at Goldenstein Gallery.
The Prayer Wheel plays a very important role in Tibetan Buddhist
tradition. The practice of turning the wheel has been used for over
a thousand years to release prayers for peace and compassion into
the world. Khandro is one of a handful of western artists to receive
formal training in bringing forth this traditional art in the way it
has been done in Tibet for centuries.
Ernst Gruler has created functional art in masterful pieces that
come from years as a successful model maker and high-end
cabinet-maker for clients in New York City. Known for his
spectacular high style tables, Gruler recently debuted “Let There be
Light” a series of lamps designed to artistically illuminate
interiors. Over the years, he has developed a unique fabrication
process, which involves bending wood laminates into architectural
forms that look more like functional sculpture than traditional
furniture. However, the chairs, tables, pedestals and lamps are not
only beautiful designs, but are functional and durable as well.

Marlys Mallet’s work, vibrant in color and light, speaks to the
essence of her diverse subjects. The focus of Mallet's work is to
create a personal vision, not to duplicate what she has seen in her
world-wide travels, but to express the magical power of the place
and her experience. The positive messages of her extensive body of
work have found an audience in homes and corporations around the
world.
The public is invited to meet these artists and other local artists
at the opening night reception for “The Big Bang” on Friday July 4th
from 5-8pm during the First Friday Sedona Gallery Association art
walk. The award winning Alcantara Vineyard will also be providing a
wine tasting at the reception.
