Taste a bit of Dublin Soul at Ken’s Creekside

SEDONA, AZ (June 1, 2009) - The Gypsy is home to some of the best international musical acts that Sedona has to offer. This weekend, Sedona’s best live music stage gets a taste of the Emerald Isle mixed with American Rock in the form of Dublin Soul.

Led by Irish guitarist Karl Jones, Dublin Soul brings its particular brand of Irish folk rock to The Gypsy at Ken’s Creekside on Friday, June 5, with performances from 7 to 9 p.m. and 10 p.m. to midnight.

Originally from Ballinteer, a village south of Dublin, Ireland, Jones began learning Irish ballads in grade school. He picked up the guitar before he was 10 and hasn’t put it down since.

He has played throughout Ireland and the United States. A Sedona resident half the year, Jones regularly heads back to Ireland to play gigs in his native country. Whenever he returns to Sedona, Jones brings a bit more of Ireland to his performances.

Following in the footsteps of Irish rock bands like U2, The Pogues and Van Morrison, Jones mixes traditional Irish musical sensibilities forth with an American rock ’n’ roll improvisational favor.

Jones performed through Dublin’s hip Temple Bar neighborhood, nationwide on the public Radio Telefís Éireann and the “Late Late Show,” Ireland’s longest running talk show.

Jones’ first performance in the United States at George Washington University’s Marvin Center — a performance that was reviewed on National Public Radio and by The Washington Post.

Jones released his debut album “1916: The Best of Karl Jones” in 2006 and his second album “Dublin Soul” in 2007.
Dublin Soul regularly plays in the Verde Valley and at Irish pubs in Phoenix, Flagstaff and Albuquerque, N.M. In 2007, Jones and his band were the headlining acts of the Sedona St. Patrick’s Day Parade.

At The Gypsy, Jones and Dublin Soul will play original rock ’n’ roll songs and traditional Irish ballads, jigs and drinking songs. Whether you want to enjoy some of Sedona’s best rock ’n’ roll or sing along with tunes that remind you of the rolling hills lochs and glens of Ireland, stop at Ken’s Creekside on June 5.
