Pianist David Vincent Mills plays with flutist William Hoshal at theGypsy Lounge at Ken's Creekside on Sunday, Aug. 2.

Mills joins Hoshal for Sunday Night Jazz Series at Ken's Creekside on August 2nd

The Gypsy Lounge brings a busy entertainment schedule to Ken’s Creekside this week. The performers include some of the best live musicians from around the Verde Valley.

David Vincent Mills and flutist and saxophonist William Hoshal will start performing at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 2.

Mills is continuing his concert series at Ken's Creekside with Hoshal on Sunday. Together they will perform jazz standards in combination with improvised pieces created that evening using Hoshal's instruments from around the world including American Indian and traditional Chinese flute.

Mills is a full-time musician, working as a piano soloist and as a member of many jazz, R&B, blues and rock bands throughout Southern California and Arizona. He was the keyboardist for “American Idol’s” Kimberley Locke on her “One Love Tour,” in which he performed in stadiums, concerts halls, clubs and on national television such as “Ellen.” Mills is also one-third of the local funk jazz trio Busker Eaton.

A composer, arranger and performer, Hoshal draws influence from the musical worlds he inhabits, including jazz, classical, ambient and commercial, he stated.

Originally trained on saxophone and woodwinds, his award-winning music has been featured in jazz festivals and on the concert stage both here and abroad.

As a jazz and commercial musician, he has performed with artists like Pat Metheny, The Brecker Brothers, Clark Terry, James Moody, Bob Mintzer, Michito Sanchez, Maureen McGovern, Hans Zimmer, Celine Dion and Lou Rawls.

Hoshal was also a staff musician, orchestrator and composer for the Walt Disney Co. for over a decade.

While still in-demand as a composer, orchestrator and producer, as well as jazz and session musician, Hoshal has set about focusing on the future of the American Indian flute. In 2007, Hoshal was selected as one of the Rising Stars at the Zion Flute Festival.
