Canyon Moon Theatre Gallery starts its 3rd season

Features exhibits by Sedona artists and photographers

SEDONA, AZ - Oct. 7, 2008 - Canyon Moon Theatre Company begins its eleventh season October 16th, offering a wonderful and diverse season of entertainment. The Canyon Moon Theatre Gallery now begins its 3rd season, featuring an exciting program exhibiting and selling the works of local photographers and artists. The theatre benefits from all of the sales. A number of the artists have also donated pieces to the theatre.

Kicking off this new season are photographers Beverly and Mel Copen along with Craig Stuart. The theme of the exhibit is “Magical Places and Moments to Remember.” A reception will be held at the CMT Gallery on Friday, October 24th from 4:45 pm until 6:15 pm. The public is invited.

Springtime in Japan, by Beverly Copen. Photographed in Japan during the peak of Cherry Blossom time.

Beverly and Mel have lived overseas and traveled extensively. They love showcasing the beauty and diversity of other countries, as well as in the great Southwest. Mel’s interests lean to landscapes, exciting weather-related scenes, and macro subjects. Beverly loves capturing scenes that reflect diversity and tell stories – reflecting how people live, work and play around the world. She also is drawn to photographing animals and breathtaking sunsets.

The Copen’s have lived full time in Sedona since 2005. They have always believed in being involved in the community, and continue that now. They coordinate scheduling exhibitions at the CMT Gallery and, as volunteers, assist Mary Guaraldi, the Director of CMT in a number of other ways. Mel is active on a number of boards, is an author, and now in his 10th year as a columnist for a newspaper. He is currently writing a book about two colorful characters in his and Beverly’s lives. Beverly has authored 3 non-fiction books, and continues to exhibit and develop web-based presentation of her educational photo books that are created for teens, as well as a new series of gift sized photography books.

The beauty of an iceberg, by Mel Copen. Photographed on a lake in Alaska.

Craig Stuart has been composing photographs for over 30 years – starting with medium format cameras and making the move to digital in the late 1990's. Now the owner of a photography tour company based in Sedona, he has had the opportunity to locate and visit remote and unusual scenic areas and capture images in ideal lighting situations. He uses available light without a tripod. Craig's images of Antelope Canyon stand among the best. He hopes that these will inspire viewers to slow down and appreciate the magical world in which we live.

Canyon Moon is a non-profit professional theatre that exists to contribute to the greater Sedona community by offering a wonderful and diverse season of entertainment, classes and special events. Our first show of the season is "Lizzie Borden Live." Innocent in a court of law. Guilty in the court of public opinion. Condemned by society. . . . The legend comes to life with humor and insight as the real Lizzie steps on stage. Was it murder? You be the judge.

For laughter, love and a good strong dose of the unexpected, take your seat at Canyon Moon when Season XI begins. You’ve never met a bunch of characters like this!
