Camp Soaring Eagle to serve its first campers in 2009 Children from Arizona “Fly with Camp Soaring Eagle” SEDONA, AZ - Camp Soaring Eagle announces that it will serve its first campers this summer 2009, as part of the Association of Hole in the Wall Camps - Camp On the Move Program. The Camp on the Move Program is designed for new camps under development to send local children to existing member camps. This program allows children with serious and chronic illnesses to embark on new adventures and enjoy a carefree, restorative time away from home before their local Hole in the Wall Camp has been completely built. This program will allow Camp Soaring Eagle to raise awareness and recruit medical partners and staff to assist in developing its own program. On June 9th, Camp Soaring Eagle will escort 15 children from Arizona to the original Hole in the Wall Gang Camp founded by the late Paul Newman in Ashford, CT and in late July they will bring 5 additional children to The Painted Turtle Camp in Lake Hughes, California. Campers being served include children aged 5 to 15 with congenital immuno-deficiencies, hereditary neuromuscular conditions, blood disorders and teen oncology patients. Campers are recommended by their physicians and social workers. Camp is completely free of charge to the campers and their families and funded through charitable contributions. The cost to send a child to camp is $1500 per child. This tax deductible contribution includes: airfare, hotel accommodations, ground transportation, insurance, meals and camp apparel. Steve Young and the Forever Young Foundation have sponsored one of our first Camper Sponsors. If you or your company would like to help give a child with serious illnesses memories of a lifetime by sponsoring a camper, please contact Jennifer Perry at 928-284-2287 or e-mail her at jperry@campsoaringeagle.org. We are following a set of guidelines that we hope will lead to provisional membership and then full membership upon the opening of our camp. These requirements are designed to assure that each member camp provides the highest level of safety and programming for the children. They are also designed to assure that each member camp has sound financial support. At this time the Association of Hole in the Wall Camps is assisting Camp Soaring Eagle to meet the necessary requirements. Being a part of such a well-established and acclaimed network of camps will provide Camp Soaring Eagle with the experience, knowledge and support to operate at the highest level of excellence.
